Maybe tunnel vision to the point of apparent lunacy is a good way to cope. I should try it. I don't think I could cosplay Master Chief, though. Dave the Diver, more like.
As part of the pandemic ‘social isolation pods’ I started DM’ing with my 20-something son and his friends. Picking up the changes to D&D was pretty straightforward and the whole thing was fun. We still play periodically. What I found interesting was how the younger crowd had different expectations of RPGs from having been saturated with fantasy and gaming their whole lives. Plus it was eye opening to hear first hand their lived experience with today’s cultural and societal trends.
Been in a fortnightly 5th Edition online game for about a year after a 20 year absence from TTRPG, and a lot has changed (mostly I think for the better). Some interesting classes and subclasses (Monks are now actually viable!) but combat-wise, as ever, I'd rather be doing GURPS.
Update From The Past
I finally got my hands on a copy of Titanium Noir and fully intended to read it on holiday but was unable to resist. I enjoyed it enormously.
Props for the indirect William Gibson reference as well.
On the bright side, I bet you'll be a great DM.

I bet you make a cracking DM!
