The thing that bugs me more than aesthetically pleasing teapots that don't pour well are utilitarian ones that don't pour well - like those horrible metal ones that every other cafe seemed to have at one point. I like Hario's glass teapots - they brew well (they have a very large infuser, which is good for loose leaf) and the nubby little spout pours well. Bodum's Assam is a reasonable pourer too, but the infuser isn't as big.

I sympathize with this so much, and really appreciate the phrase "passes for pretty in the age of commercialised pasts".

At the same time the fact that clicking that instagram link gives me a Page not Found error makes me want to write a similar thing about internet infrastructure and why it's so impossible to link to reels outside insta's walled garden.

You have reminded me of Professor Brainstawm’s unspillable tea cup, and the problems it gave the mayor and all the assembled ladies and gentlemen at the tea party held to launch the Professor’s marvellous invention.

I'll admit, I don't use a teapot often. As an American I'm far more partial to my coffee percolator...but I have recently been getting more into pour over coffee since apparently I become more of a snooty bitch as I get older, and my wife greatly enjoys Earl Grey tea in the morning...to that end, I have found exceptional use from an electric kettle with a thin gooseneck spout. It doesn't make a billion gallons of water hot at once, but it's enough for two ten ounce mugs easily and only takes about three minutes to heat up. Most importantly though, I have found the pour to be not only steady but easy to control. Link enclosed if desired...otherwise, hope you already found a good one :D

P.S. - Jesus the price on that has gone up a bit since I bought it...still...I'd buy it again considering how much we use it

I have a teapot I bought in a lane in Brighton that has moved back and forth across the pond with me twice, both times in my suitcase. It’s small but I bet the larger size is just fine

The lack of design focus on how well teapots pour is a sore point with me, as well. And it’s especially ironic since a poorly designed teapot (amusingly so) adorns the cover of one of the most seminal books on the subject of usability design, Donald Norman’s “The Design of Everyday Things.”

Spent a couple of days with my son’s family. Part of the time I did some minor chores around their house. Fixing a rocking chair arm, curtain rod etc. I had time that parents of a newborn don’t, the skills and inclination.
