An asteroid strike has to be up there. It would be an entirely crappy event in almost every way. Actually, I honestly can’t think of much of a plus. Well, I suppose theoretically it might nudge Earth onto a trajectory which would eventually miss a black hole or something, but still. Exactly no fun at all in the intervening quadjillion years.
Nuclear weapons, incidentally, are not the most useful way to deal with the problem. Do not get talked into putting nooks in space.
Are you tuning out? Too science fiction for you?
Try harder. This is your world now. It won’t go away.
Or at least, we really better hope not.
‘We are no longer passive victims of the impact process [...] We cannot shirk the responsibility.’
