One of my favorite openings of all time is William Gibson&#039;s _Count Zero_. Do you remember those opening pages? Not as quite as baffling as GOAW, but definitely lets you know the world has changed and you&#039;re in for a wild ride!</description>

What strikes me - and I&#039;ll be giving this more pondered thought when I finish - is how much more &#039;written&#039; the first section feels. I think it&#039;s almost always the case that the first bit of any text gets worked over more than the rest, not always to its benefit, but here there&#039;s a real shift in style, from the all-guns-blazing feel of the intro to the slightly quieter and more considered tone of what follows. But I&#039;ll say no more...</description>
