Glancing bleary-eyed at the news this morning, I saw a headline which fascinated me:

And quite right, too, I thought. Monsters should be taxed on everything. 10p per fanged tooth, for a start, and heavy council taxing on lairs. Then clearly there should be some kind of registration scheme for monsters in general so that we know where they are and what sort of thing we can expect from them. I’m amazed no one’s done it already. My MP is clearly asleep at the wheel.

While the page was loading, I pottered off to brush my teeth. With the minty goodness of whatever toothpaste we’re using this month filling my mouth, I pondered a banding system for monsters, financial and social control orders, and so on.

Sadly, of course, the article was about ministers rather than monsters. Although I’m still not entirely persuaded that some of the same constraints should not apply…
